I found another utility that seems to convert the files I need, the "XGS utility Imgutnew.exe", but it does not work on win64. May be because it is not a CopyDisk 4.2 image ( probably it is a CopyDisk 6.X) I tried to use the floptool but it did not worked as expected. ( and then use the WINIMAGE to save it to a floppy disk - it is explained here. Floptool might be able convert a DiskCopy 4.2. Based on the info found on Patrick's guide and trying to find his other guide "Writing images using DiskCopy" I found another piece of good info : floptool from MESS (. Following Patrick's guide, I found we can use HFVExplorer to manipulate some apple images on PC. I didn't know, but you can also run the A/UX on a MAC SE/30 ( More info here ). The recommend MAC OS for a SE/30 is versions 6.0.8 or 7.0.1/7.1 ( although it also run 7.5.3 ).Ĭ. ![]() This is the info I was looking for to start my tests.ī. What I learned until now (with your help) :Ī.IMAGE are Apple Disk Copy image files. IMAGE files I got from BA FTP file Apple Mac OS 7.5.3 (3.5'') on a PC ( Win8.1) and create the floppy disks on this PC using a USB floppy drive. IMAGE files are DiskCopy images, I'm trying to read the. The collective wisdom is great !! I learned a lot with the info you all posted above. Here- Here is the "DiskCopy Way(tm)" convert for 7.5.0 disktools.Thank You all. Try writing THAT to a floppy, and see if your picky little eater will hold down its lunch. I will do a one-off on the disk tools disk, which should be bootable, and do it the DiskCopy way(tm). (that is what disk 6 in the 7.5.0 set above was made using, because finder refused to cooperate with my normal methods, insisting the disk was full on copy operation). (Comparison from PC world, creating fat16 file structure instead of Fat12, and with MBR containing partition table, instead of floppy style one.) I have noticed that DiskCopy has options to convert disk images backed inside it, and has a native support for raw floppy image without any embellishment. While the disk image containers spat out by hfv explorer SHOULD have all the magic bits set right, it is entirely possible that it is outputting and HFV structure that is meant for a hard disk and not a floppy. I am going to satisfy a thing that is itching in the back of my mind. When I get a new boot disk I will know for sure. After the SE stopped working I copied the system and finder back to a folder lable system folder. I copied system 6 from my hd on the SE before it stopped working to the g3. I got a cheap usb floppy long time ago I forget where. SE FDHD goes upto 7.5.5 and I upgraded to 4 mb ram. ![]() If you do not have a functioning mac, it is possible to write these on a PC with floppy drives, using a combination of HFV explorer and Basilisk II. ![]() Macintosh Garden has the sets available it seems. (Technically, 8 is the last classic macos that could run on 68k macs, but unless that mac is high end, I would stick with system 7.) ![]() Unless you have a specific need for system 6, I would recommend moving to system 7, as most games that ran on 68k based classic macs expected 7. If you have a legit mac, you have a license to use the software, IIRC. The system 7 disk images and SEA archives were freely distributable from apple BITD.
